Sunrise at blankstareblinkCoats. God love them. As Paula mentioned in Finding My Outer Home-girl, coats cover our lax bellies and bits, and lackadaisical ideas of what an outfit is. My love affair with coats was born out of necessity – I had to brave those New York winters, after all.  Now, these past lovers gather moth holes and frustration in my LA closet. Favorites were those that highlighted my waist so my 5’4″ frame and pin-like head weren’t swallowed by proportion. No Celine for me. Vivienne Westwood and Comme des Garçons always showed me off best. We went on a lot of hot dates back in cold BKLYN.

Back in LA, I wear one-eighth of my coats, now one-sixteenth of the time. I miss them. Their fabric content and comforting warmth are not welcome here in sunny California. I still have bits to cover and lazy days I want to hide. Cotton just might have to be my new love in this city of eternal sunshine. Although it feels a bit like cheating.
